I'm Kirsty Joy (KJ), the proud founder of Kirsty Joy Creative, where every click of the shutter is infused with a deep sense of purpose and personal connection.
My journey into photography has been shaped by the twists and turns of my own life, navigating through various traumas. This journey, coupled with my studies in psychology, has given me a unique understanding of the strength that lies within every woman.
I see each photoshoot as an opportunity to empower others on their journey, capturing not only moments but the resilience and beauty that emerge from life's challenges.

Now, I’m working from a new shared creative space at 32 Bank Street, alongside the incredible Wild Ivy Florist and Artistry. This collaborative studio allows us to continue running our small businesses without the burden of high overheads, and I’m so grateful for this next chapter.
Although I now work full-time in the sports industry, I continue to operate Kirsty Joy Creative after hours—offering portrait sessions that celebrate women, motherhood, and self-love as well as commercial branding.
My studio work has always been about more than photos—it's a space where stories are told, confidence is rediscovered, and women are encouraged to embrace their unique beauty. Each image becomes a lasting reminder of strength, radiance, and the journey of being unapologetically you.

Beyond the studio in Whangarei, my lens has been privileged to witness love stories unfold in weddings across New Zealand and Australia. Each destination adds a new layer of richness to the visual narratives I create, and I consider it an honor to play a role in capturing these cherished moments. My love for photography extends beyond the still frame and into the dynamic realm of videography. I believe in creating not just pictures but immersive experiences that bring to life the magic of weddings and other significant milestones such maternity portraiture.
As an advocate for Sony, I am thrilled to have them on this creative journey with me. This partnership extends beyond equipment; it allows me to run workshops, sharing my knowledge with the next generation of photographers. Teaching has become a passion, and through Sony, I find joy in empowering others to explore the artistry of photography.
ACHEIVEMENTS
I’m proud to share that my dedication to excellence has earned me Winner of the Micro business category at the Northland Business Awards 2021 and Judges Choice Award at the Northland Business Awards in 2024.
On an international stage, I’ve been honoured with both winner and runner-up recognitions in Asia Pacific Photo Awards and winner of the Maternity Category in the International Portrait Masters Awards 2024.
Additionally, I am humbled to have earned New Zealand’s Most Outstanding Wedding Photographer at the NZ Wedding Industry Awards 2022.

Beyond the lens, my life is infused with 2 beautiful sons, a loving husband and many animals and a passion for sports. As an athlete and coach in athletics, representing New Zealand overseas and breaking records in my age grade, I bring the same dedication and creativity to my sporting pursuits and motherhood as I do to photography.
